EXPERIENCE

Program Coordinator, GLBTA Resource Center, American University (6/2005 to 8/2008)

·         Led the department while director’s position was vacant for over one year. During this time, hired seven part-time workers, and managed their operation of the center’s library, prospective student outreach, support group, website, speakers bureau, and other core programs. Directed day-to-day operations, set departmental goals, guided advisory board, designed and conducted trainings, advised students/organizations, spoke to media, advocated inclusive policies, and coordinated events.

·         Spearheaded the key proposal for a transgender-inclusive employee health insurance policy. Was commended by the division vice president for a well-researched and well-written issue paper. Presented this work as an invited faculty member at a day-long national institute on transgender healthcare.

·         Created the “GLBT Studies Colloquium,” a campus conference attended by over 100 people annually, which leverages student and faculty research, and solidifies campus sexuality and gender studies resources.

·         Developed innovative resources regarding international exchange and sexuality and gender identity issues, provided training to over a dozen key university professionals on these matters, and shared this expertise on two panels at the annual conference of the premier association of international educators.

·         Facilitated leadership trainings nationwide for Asian and Pacific Islander American college students.

·         Advised students in developing effective campaigns for racial inclusion and policy change on their campuses.

·         Restructured the training program, trained new trainers, and developed new curricula.

Director, LGBT Student Empowerment Project, U.S. Student Association Foundation (6/2003 to 6/2005)

·         Crafted and achieved project goals, researched and wrote publications, developed and provided trainings nationwide, represented the organization at conferences and in national coalitions, hired and supervised interns, outreached to media, organized an annual day of action carried out at hundreds of colleges, worked on a team to execute two annual conferences, and worked with a consultant to secure project grant support.

·         Increased the effectiveness of a national day of action, growing it by 62% from 430 to 700 campuses in 2004.

·         Created a first-of-its-kind national capacity-building student training on race, gender, and sexuality issues.
